CHAPTER HISTORY

The 2015-2016 school year marked the 37th year of being an FBLA Chapter. Throughout the 37 years, Elgin has faced many obstacles but has always triumphed through the struggles. Our chapter has had the honor of being Chapter of the Year for 23 years, including six straight years for 2A schools.

Chapter Organization

In the fall of 1979,the Elgin FBLA chapter was charted with 15 members. The chartering was due to the efforts of the Wallowa and Joseph  High Schools. Mrs. Pratt was the first Elgin FBLA Advisor.

The Elgin Chapter has always been involved in many activities, including recruitment and installation of other chapters. In 1983 our chapter successfully recruited the Imbler FBLA chapter, and in 1987 the Ontario FBLA chapter was added to the State Chapter list because of our efforts. The following year the Union FBLA chapter was recruited. Also, in 1990 our chapter encouraged and helped install the Hood River Valley chapter and finally in 1993, we are proud to say that we chartered the Vale Union High School FBLA chapter.

Today, over 31 years later, our chapter has continually grown not only in size but in recognition and involvement. Mrs. Peggy Anthony has been our advisor since 1984. The 2014-2015 year was Mrs. Peggy Anthony's last year of teaching. Ms. Katie Griffin will be filling her shoes starting in the school year of 2015-2016.

Elgin High School is located in Elgin, Oregon, known as the Home of the Huskies. The high school has a population of about 135 students, which classifies it as a 2A school. The Elgin High School FBLA Chapter currently has a membership of 45 students. Elgin FBLA is a part of the Blue Mountain Region. We are also proud to say that Elgin FBLA has been "Chapter of the Year of 2A Schools" for 23 years.

FBLA Creed

"I believe education is the right of every person.

I believe the future depends on mutual understanding and cooperation among business, industry, labor, religious, family, and educational institutions, as well as people around the world. I agree to do my utmost to bring about understanding and cooperation among all of these groups.

I believe every person should prepare for a useful occupation and carry on that occupation in a manner that brings the greatest good to the greatest number.

I believe every person should actively work toward improving social, political, community, and family life.

I believe every person has the right to earn a living at a useful occupation.

I believe every person should take responsibility for carrying out assigned tasks in a manner that brings credit to self, associates, school, and community.

I believe I have the responsibility to work efficiently and to think clearly. I promise to use my abilities to make the world a better place for everyone."
